One of my new favorite life mantras is ‘We can do Hard Things’.
I learned it in a fantastic book I read recently called Untamed. The book is written by Glennon Doyle and conveys a lot of extraordinary wisdom and no-nonsense insights into how society articulates, repeats, and reinforces gender roles.
For me, ‘We can do hard things’ just resonates perfectly. It is an affirmation that reminds me that living life on life’s own absurd terms is hard. It isn’t hard because I am weak or flawed or because I have made a wrong turn somewhere; it is hard simply because sometimes it is hard to be human. ‘We can do hard things’ insists that we can, and should, stay in the hard because there is some kind of reward for sticking it out. If I have started something, there must have been a good reason for it – so I shouldn’t quit just because things get hard, but carry on as best I can…
Today’s big idea comes from Glennon Doyle and her honest and no-nonsense book ‘Untamed’.
