Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic wrote a book with the controversial and somewhat provocative title “Why do so many incompetent Men Become Leaders?”.
In the book he asks two powerful questions: Why is it so easy for incompetent men to become leaders? And why is it so hard for competent people—especially competent women—to advance?
Throughout the book we learn that confidence is not equal to competence, that Charisma is just a mirage and that traits like narcissism and psychopathy hurt more than they help when it comes to leadership performance.
This makes Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic ask the question: “if all these characteristics don’t make for good leaders and most of these characteristics are found more often in men – could women just be better suited for leadership?”
