I have always been more of ‘A talker’ than ‘A listener’ and never gave much thought to it until I was introduced to the concept of ‘Active Listening’ concept. Once you grasp the idea, it’s basically ‘a no-brainer’ that you must start practicing it sooner rather than later.
In a Nutshell…
Active listening is a conversational technique that can transform communication from a passive process to an interactive and meaningful exchange, benefiting both the speaker and the listener.
The idea of active listening originated in the field of psychotherapy and counseling, primarily through the work of Carl Rogers, a renowned American psychologist. Active listening was designed to create an environment of trust and openness, allowing clients to express themselves without judgment. This technique has since been adapted for use in various fields, including education, business, and everyday conversations.
Active listening is a communication technique in which the listener fully concentrates, understands, responds, and remembers what the speaker is saying. It’s more than just hearing words — it’s about being engaged and giving thoughtful feedback.
We hope you will enjoy our animated walkthrough of the technique; you can watch it here 📚🧠📖💡
