Super Life By Darin Olien

There are many advantages of having a mom who is a professional Youtuber/Housewife. I am almost always home for cooking and driving purposes (teenage boys are always hungry and equally often need a lift …), and even though they are big and can handle themselves, I sense that they still appreciate me being here when they are sick or sad or happy 😊 Also having read more than 140 books on Self-Development, parenting, communication, interpersonal relationship, etc. the last few years gives me a good starting point for awesome mom-hood (most of the time 😉).

One of the disadvantages is that every week when I read a new book, they become guinea pigs for whatever new ‘fab’, leadership style, or communication skills I just have learned. Which sometimes drives them crazy.

This week I read ‘Super Life’ by Darin Olien – a super inspiring book that immediately made me want to eat healthier… Raw broccoli, spinach, and quinoa are now a daily part of my diet and, as you may have guessed, also on the menu for the boys!!

Luckily, they seem actually to be enjoying it, and hopefully, we will all live longer and healthier lives because of it!!

‘Super Life’ puts forward the simple but radical theory that you can fundamentally improve your physical and mental health simply by utilizing five life forces: Quality Nutrition, Hydration, Oxygenation, Alkalization, And Detoxification.

Together, these five life forces provide us with an entirely new way of thinking about health and well-being.

If you, too, are interested in joining the ‘broccoli cult’ 😉 or just feel curious about what Darin Olien has to say, you can start by watching our animated summary of the book.

You are the Placebo By Joe Dispenza

You have probably heard of the placebo effect, when a neutral substance changes your body just because you believe it can! But did you know that you can be your own placebo?

In his famous book ‘You are the placebo,’ Dr. Joe Dispenza asserts that it is, in fact, possible to heal yourself by thought alone.

Fundamentally the book asks the question: “Is it possible to replicate the principles of the placebo effect and produce significant changes in your personal health solely through methodical focus and deliberate intention?”

Spoiler alert – according to Joe Dispenza, it is most certainly possible and he is happy to share how!!

We hope you will enjoy our animated summary, where we will walk you through the essential points conveyed in the book.

Man’s Search For Meaning By Viktor Frankl

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms. To choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

(Viktor E Frankl – Man’s search for Meaning)

This week I re-read Man’s search for meaning by Viktor Frankl. A book close to my heart since it in many ways inspired me to start BigIdeasGrowingMinds.

The book is divided into two parts. Part one; chronicles Frankl’s experiences as a concentration camp inmate during World War II, and part two describes the psychotherapeutic method he developed after the war called Logotherapy.

Logotherapy guides patients to find purpose and meaning in their lives. It builds on the premise that what provides meaning differs from person to person, so each must choose their own path.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms. To choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

If you have not yet read ‘Man’s search for meaning’ I highly recommend reading the whole book, but should you find yourself short on time, you can start by watching our animated summary 😊

Bittersweet By Susan Cain

Imagine a world without sadness, loss, or suffering where no one is ever in a bad mood. Tears are unheard of. You never wake up at 3:00 a.m. riddled with worry or anxiety about the future. Lovers never leave each other. Loved ones never die.

Immediately, I think we would all agree that this sounds pretty great, but according to bestselling author Susan Cain, it might not be so straightforward!

See, sadness, pain, and loss all play essential roles. Without them, life’s joys would be more mundane. The people you love wouldn’t feel so precious. And moments of happiness wouldn’t feel special at all. Without darkness, you don’t notice the light. If you’ve never tasted bitterness, you can’t recognize sweetness.

This week I read ‘Bittersweet’ by Susan Cain. The book has the subtitle ‘How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole’ and is, in its essence, a reflection on how a bittersweet state of mind can help us transcend pain – both on a personal and collective level!

According to Cain, the Bittersweet is a neglected but truly beautiful quality. She defines it as “A tendency to states of longing, nostalgia, and sorrow: an acute awareness of passing time: and a curiously piercing joy at the beauty of the world.”

It’s the understanding that the tragedy of life is inescapably paired with its splendor. It’s compassion, sadness, modesty, hidden suffering and quietness, and the plangent allure of the happy-sad.

We hope you will enjoy this animated summary, where we will walk you through the essential pieces of wisdom conveyed in the book:

‘The Obstacle is the way’ by Ryan Holiday.

Ponder this! This thing in front of you. This issue. This obstacle – this frustration, unfortunate, problematic, unexpected problem preventing you from doing what you want to do. That thing you dread or secretly hope will never happen. What if it wasn’t so bad?

This week I read a very inspiring book called ‘The Obstacle is the way’ by Ryan Holiday.

The book teaches us that contrary to popular belief, the obstacles we will inevitably face throughout life should not be seen as mere annoyances or unavoidable irritations but instead as opportunities!! Opportunities to practise virtue, patience, courage, humility, resourcefulness, and creativity. Holiday goes on and argues that obstacles are the driving force of every self-made man and woman across the world – be it on the battlefield or in the boardrooms, across oceans and centuries!

We hope you will enjoy our animated summary, where we will walk you through the essential points conveyed in the book.
