Do hard things by Steve Magness

When thinking of the word “tough,” many people think of a John-Wayne-type: someone who suffers silently, stoically ignores pain, and wouldn’t be caught dead talking about their feelings. But according to author Steve Magness this popular image of toughness is deeply flawed and needs to be revised.

In his thought-provoking book ‘Do Hard Things’ he proposes that toughness isn’t projecting confidence; it’s uncovering authenticity. See, true toughness begins long before we reach the playing field or the conference stage. It starts with how we assess the situation and our capabilities. Our expectations set the stage for our biological reaction.

True resilience comes from being honest with ourselves, from aligning our expectations and reality! Being honest with ourselves allows us to relentlessly pursue our goals, which inevitably improves our endurance and performance.

As a dedicated Youtuber and Non-fiction book fan, it was almost a given that I, at some point, had to come across Gary Vaynerchuk!! See Gary is a dedicated serial entrepreneur, 5 times New York Times bestselling author, and generally considered one of the leading global minds on what’s next in culture, relevance, and the internet.

This week I read and summarised his inspiring book ‘Crushing It!’.  The book has the subtitle ‘How Great Entrepreneurs Build Their Business and Influence’ and is, in its essence, a roadmap for building a powerful brand.

Through honest anecdotes and insightful observations, Vaynerchuk emphasizes that Anyone, including you, can build a personal brand on social media and exert enough influence to earn a good – and possibly fantastic – living doing what you love (No matter which industry you have chosen to play and compete in!)

According to Vaynerchuk, there are 8 qualities you need to build a thriving brand. They are as follows:

Give and Take By Adam Grant

This week I read ‘Give and Take’ By Adam Grant. The book has the subtitle ‘Why Helping Others Drives Our Success’ and is, in its essence, a groundbreaking insight into the surprising forces determining if people rise to the top of the success ladder or sink to the bottom.

The basic premise of the book is that most people fit into one of three reciprocity styles:

  • Givers – who ‘give more than they get.’
  • Takers who ‘get more than they give.’
  • And Matchers who ‘balance give and take’ and are willing to exchange favors but careful not to be exploited.

Every time you interact with someone, your chosen style reveals itself. The decision is all yours, and what you choose can significantly impact your chances for success in Life, Business, and Love!

I like to think I am a giver – how about you??

Money, Master the Game by Tony Robbins

This week I dived into the field of money, financial independence and early retirement. As part of my research, I stumbled upon the bestselling book ‘Money – Master the Game’ by motivational speaker and life coach Tony Robbins.

In its essence, the book is a roadmap to becoming ‘financially independence’; defined as ‘having enough income or wealth sufficient to pay one’s living expenses for the rest of one’s life without having to be employed or dependent on others’.

A crucial point in the book is that you don’t have to be an expert investor or a financial adviser to master your fiscal plans for the future. Anyone can master money matters, achieve economic well-being, and create their dream lifestyle. All you need is some fundamental knowledge and a strong desire!

The book has the subtitle ‘7 Simple Steps to Financial freedom’ We hope you will enjoy this animated summary, where we will walk you through the essential pieces of wisdom from each step.
