I recently suffered a great personal loss when my father died suddenly at age 69. My dad was a remarkable man. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and the kind of person that left a lasting impression on almost everyone he came across. He was an amazing businessman! A CEO at the age of 32 and an influential figure in the Danish construction industry for almost 40 years.
His sudden death leaves me with a grief that seems almost unbearable. Even though I am not a little girl anymore my dad would still come to my rescue every time I faced adversity. He simply couldn’t help himself! And it was the best feeling in the world, knowing that no matter what, he would always be there to catch me if I fell.
As I found myself grieving his death, I therefore naturally reflected upon what he would expect of me in this situation and what he would advise me to do if he was still here!?
I know the answer. He would expect me to be strong, to face my adversity head-on and to keep working. So that is what I will do.
This week’s video on BigIdeasGrowingMinds is made to honour his memory and to help myself during this difficult period. The topic comes from Mo Gawdat and his motivational book “Solve for Happy”.

In 2014 Mo Gawdat was put to the ultimate test when he lost his son during a simple surgical procedure. Seventeen days after this tragedy occurred, he started writing “Solve for Happy”. The book takes its starting point in the premise that Happiness starts with a conscious choice. A conscious choice of accepting life exactly as it is.
